Cultural immersion in Brazil

Brazil is warm, expressive, welcoming, and full of everyday moments that help students grow. Living with a host family gives teenagers the chance to experience the country from the inside, not as tourists passing through. Meals, conversations, family outings, neighborhood life, music, sports, and local traditions all become part of the learning experience.

Students quickly discover how much culture lives in small daily rituals: greeting relatives, trying new foods, joining weekend plans, visiting local landmarks, and learning how Brazilian families spend time together. The result is a summer that feels personal, memorable, and deeply human.

Learn Portuguese through immersion

Brazil is the best classroom for Portuguese because the language is everywhere: at home, at school, in shops, during activities, and in conversations with new friends. Even students who arrive with little or no Portuguese begin to recognize common expressions and gain confidence through daily practice.

Instead of memorizing vocabulary in isolation, students hear real Brazilian Portuguese in context. They learn tone, rhythm, gestures, humor, and the small phrases that make communication feel natural.

Personal growth & independence

A homestay in Brazil helps students become more independent, adaptable, and confident. Being away from home, navigating a new culture, and learning to communicate across languages builds resilience and maturity in a way that stays with them long after the trip.

For high school students, this kind of experience can also strengthen college applications by showing curiosity, initiative, and a genuine commitment to cultural understanding.

Brazil homestay group visiting Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro

” My time in Brazil was amazing! I stayed in a city outside of Rio de Janeiro with the most remarkable family. My host family was warm, welcoming and introduced me to many aspects of Brazilian culture. We spent time at the beach in Pineda de Mar, we took the bus to Rio de Janeiro’s city center where we toured the Basílica de la Sagrada Familia, went shopping and had fun. We also visited Montblanc and I spent a day at an amusement park called Tibidabo. My three weeks ended with a trip to the beautiful French mountain town of Estavar where we hiked, played board games and spent time at the pool. My fondest memories are of my time spent with my new “family”. We had so much fun each day. They cooked healthy, delicious meals. I learned more about their culture and was able to share my life with them. It was an amazing experience. One which I will never forget. Thank much. “
