Cultural immersion in France

Living with a French host family means experiencing the heart of French life. From sharing Sunday family meals to understanding the importance of leisure time, students will experience the nuances of French daily life. Activities like shopping at local markets, visiting boulangeries for fresh bread, or participating in family conversations around the dinner table help students gain a true understanding of the French way of living.

Beyond these daily routines, students will discover the cultural significance of meal rituals and how food brings people together in France. Long, relaxed meals provide an opportunity not just to eat, but to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and bond with the family. Students will also learn the subtle art of conversation, a core part of French culture, as they join in lively debates or simple everyday chats.

Immersed in family life, students might participate in local community events, help prepare traditional dishes, or accompany their host family on weekend outings to nearby villages. These authentic, everyday experiences enable students to grasp the true essence of French culture, building a deep connection that goes far beyond a typical visit to France.

Learn French through immersion

Total language immersion is one of the most effective ways to improve French skills. Daily conversations with your host family will enhance your fluency, and by the end of your stay, you’ll be comfortable navigating French-speaking environments and engaging in conversations with ease.

Beyond improving fluency, students will have the chance to pick up regional accents and phrases unique to different areas of France, from the soft Provençal dialect to the sharper Parisian speech. They will also develop an ear for the informal language used in social settings, learning when and how to use phrases like “tu” and “vous” appropriately.

By navigating real-life situations such as ordering food in cafés or conversing at local markets, students will deepen their practical understanding of French in everyday contexts.

Personal growth & independence

The experience of living abroad helps students develop independence and resilience. By adapting to a new environment, managing daily responsibilities, and forming new friendships, students gain valuable life skills that will serve them in the future.

For high school sophomores and juniors, this full immersion program is an excellent opportunity to enhance college applications.
